How do people perceive quality in regard to cutlery? In user tests the perception of quality in terms of form, weight and touch of cutlery was analysed. The form of the objects is based on the comparison of spoons in different materials.
People were asked to choose the one they perceived as the highest value. The result of the test was that a thin transition between scoop and handle leads to a higher quality perception. Possibly people have an inherent understanding of durable materials, like steel, which allows to manufacture with thin material. This finding gave the objects its formal expression and the small bend in the handle.
